First
Things First S'More
First Things First S’More is a collection of traditional folk songs,
classical themes and rounds representing cultures and styles from
around the world. The compositions are arranged to be extremely
versatile in meeting the needs of younger beginners in an elementary
level string orchestra. Accidentals rather than key signatures are
used in the student parts to assist young players with note reading.
Each instrument part book includes a melody line as well as an
additional harmony line. With the addition of the piano, any size string class
can
successfully perform these selections. By using all the parts together, a
complete
string orchestra is achieved. First Things First S’More can be used with any
beginning string method.
Bach and Before for Strings
By David Newell
This is a versatile collection of 19 Bach chorales, newly set in
“string-friendly” keys. The chorales range in difficulty from easy to
very sophisticated and are suitable for year 2 through high school
string orchestras. Great for warm-up and teaching, as well as performance.
The book is presented in
Total Option Scoring
format with all 4 voice parts
(soprano, alto , tenor, bass) presented in each part book. This allows for
unprecedented teaching opportunities. Unison playing will help develop the
quality of a string orchestra’s sound, and is the foundation of playing in tune.
As additional parts are added, students learn the nuances of harmony and
expressive playing.
