Jazz For Young People Curriculum

This multi-media jazz appreciation course based on Jazz at
Lincoln Center’s popular Jazz For Young People concert series,
is designed primarily for upper elementary and middle school
students. The curriculum explores core concepts including
improvisation, form, style and swing - and major figures in
jazz through accessible, interactive lessons that demonstrate
the exuberance, rich cultural heritage and definitive musical
elements inherent in jazz.
Included in this complete kit:
A 10-CD set (including one CD-ROM) of newly recorded music performed by the
Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and special guests, with narration by Wynton
Marsalis, that explores topics such as the blues, Louis Armstrong. bebop, and
Duke Ellington.
An in-depth Teaching Guide that leads educators step-by-step through each lesson
explaining jazz styles. musical concepts, historical information, and key jazz figures;

The Music and Lives of 22 Great Composers, with Listening CD,
Review/ Tests, and Supplemental Materials

Accent on Composers is a 100% reproducible book with
listening CD designed to introduce students to the lives and
music of 22 great composers. It may be used either as
supplementary material or as a specific curriculum, in a
general music class or in a course in music literature or history.
For each composer, students will study the life of the composer,
then listen to a well-known and representative musical work by
the composer. There are 3 sections for each composer:
Biography: Including a portrait, phonetic pronunciation of the
composer’s name, interesting composer “factoids”, a chart listing the types of music
the composer wrote, dates of birth/ death and the era in which the composer wrote,
a time line listing world events during the composer’s lifetime, and more.
Listening Example: Information about a well-known work representative of the composer’s
style, plus a second-by-second guide to assist students as the listen to the CD included
in this book. The CD features recordings in a variety of styles from solo piano to
orchestral to opera.
Review: A student assessment featuring 1o multiple choice or true/false questions
plus one fill-in-the-blank bonus question.
